Used Jeep Grand Cherokee Starter Motor

Used original unit, matched on the OEM part number and confirmed against your VIN before we quote. Sourced to order — never sold from a shelf.

How we source a starter motor for the Grand Cherokee

A used original starter motor for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, matched on the pinion tooth count and on whether the car has stop-start. The two versions look identical on the outside and engage different flywheels.

Jeep's Wrangler and Grand Cherokee lines ran long with running changes. A unit from a different production year may bolt up and still not work.

We do not hold stock and quote from a shelf — units are located after you send the VIN, which is why the price you get is for your vehicle rather than for an average one. If nothing suitable is available at the time, we say so instead of quoting a unit that will not fit.

What we check before we quote

  • Part number and pinion tooth count matched to your engine code.
  • Bench test result stated — spins under load, or does not.
  • Solenoid and brush condition described; a noisy Bendix is declared as noisy.
  • Stop-start and non-stop-start versions distinguished rather than treated as one part.

Questions buyers ask about this part

My car cranks slowly — is it the starter or the battery?

Usually the battery or a cable, then the starter. A starter that turns slowly and gets hot is worn; one that clicks once and does nothing is often the solenoid or the earth strap. Test the battery first, because it is cheaper than either.

Does the starter come with the solenoid?

On most units the solenoid is part of the starter and comes with it. Where a donor arrived without one, the listing says so rather than letting you find out on the ramp.

Can my old starter be rebuilt instead?

Sometimes, and for rare models it is worth it. For common ones a used original is usually cheaper than a rebuild once labour is counted, which is why we supply both routes when asked.
